About Us

The White Swan name refers to the heraldic coats of arms of the Earls of Essex and Edward III. It is situated on the Devil's Acre, named by Charles Dickens in his Household Words Magazine. It was first registered in 1759 as a public house and overlooks the point on the Thames where a boat arrived to take prisoners from Milbank prison from the UK to Australia. Pimlico's most famous attraction is Tate Gallery on Millbank which is situated on what was once Milbank prison. Pimlico also lays claim to many notable former residents, including Lawrence Olivier, Laura Ashley and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
